Script - The anatomy of e-tron

At Audi we live responsibility. Sustainability is firmly anchored in our self-perception. Our primary objective is to drastically reduce carbon emissions.

e-tron is the direct result of our sustainability philosophy. Audi e-tron is a series of electric and plug-in hybrid cars that provide mobility without compromise.

The climb into the mountains

An e-tron car marries impressive performance with low emissions and holds true to our brand values: sporty, progressive and high quality.

Audi e-tron gives you the flexibility to choose to drive with just the combustion engine, just the electric drive, or in hybrid mode with both.

During your journey, energy recuperation technology converts kinetic energy from your brakes and stores it in the Lithium-ion battery.

This energy is used to relieve the load on the alternator, helping to improve fuel efficiency.

There's four driving modes, giving the driver complete freedom. When Hybrid Auto mode is activated, the battery charge is used as often as possible. This mode is particularly suited to long distances.

Constant driving and coasting gather kinetic energy.

At the top of the mountains and on the way down

Whether electrical or hybrid, drivers can expect a sporty driving performance. The S mode features sporty engine and transmission settings and performance can be boosted by the electric motor.

In the design you've already come to expect from an Audi, adopting a proactive driving style with early braking manoeuvres encourages further regenerative capture.

All high-voltage components are housed inside the car. [Explode engine] 1.4 TFSI, Power electronics, Battery Cooling and HV Battery.

Through the tunnel

An Audi A3 Sportback e-tron goes from nought to sixty two miles per hour in 7.6 seconds, with a top speed of 138 miles per hour.

Exiting the tunnel and entering city traffic

In everyday traffic, EV mode the e-tron runs purely on electrical power. This makes for reduced emissions and almost silent driving.

The electric motor is installed between the combustion engine and gearbox. [Explode engine]

The electric motor produces 75kW of power, enough for 31 miles of range.

Charging back up in a suburban area

An Audi e-tron car has an impressive total range of 584 miles.

There are charge points across the UK, in car parks, supermarkets, on the street, right where you need them.

The vehicle is easy to charge using universal equipment, it's highly efficient and a significant step towards our vision to be CO2 neutral.

The high-voltage battery uses lithium-ion technology and is guaranteed for 8 years. That's the equivalent of 100,000 miles.

Driving off into the sunset

Owners of electric/hybrid vehicles are proud advocates, who have an environmental feel good factor that comes out of their attitude to sustainable driving.

They know there are no limitations on their usual mobility and they have the same expectations they always had of Audi's premium design and quality.

e-tron. Like a car, but better

From the 12th January to 8th February 2015 Audi showcased the A3 e-tron at the 'Audi e-tron Experience Centre' in Westfield, Stratford.

Westfield customers were able to explore the benefits of the first plug-in hybrid car produced by Audi with the help of leading-edge technologies. An innovative way to interact with an innovative car and one which spearheads another new foray for the Audi philosophy of 'Vorsprung durch Technik'.

The A3 Sportback e-tron is the first electric car of any kind to be derived from a UK best-selling premium hatchback. It couples a 75kW electric motor with a 148bhp 1.4-litre TFSI petrol engine, delivering the potential for up to 176mpg with CO2 emissions of just 37g/km.

In addition to seeing the car, visitors were able explore dedicated zones, providing information about the technology:

- Audi Virtual Reality Zone: Experience the 360° e-tron journey
- Explorer Zone: Configure your own e-tron
- Virtual e-tron Zone: Explore the technology of the A3 Sportback e-tron
- Charging Zone: See how easy it is to charge your e-tron

Interactive Zones

Customers could learn about the benefits of the four different drive modes available (including an electric-only mode and a hybrid charging mode) on the A3 Sportback e-tron, as well as personally configure their own bespoke model using the Audi Explorer App and Audi Mileage Tracker App. Additionally, the Audi connect app enabled owners of the car to control a variety of functions, such as the charging system via their smartphones.

Oculus Rift Experience

An 'Oculus Rift zone' saw three racing seats for customers to sit on and wear the wide-aspect head set. The O.R. video 'test-drive' that plays to the user immersed them into an e-tron 360 degree virtual reality experience that told the story of e-tron's anatomy in 90 seconds.

Sarah Cox, the company's National Communications Manager, said: "Westfield customers will be able to explore the benefits of the first plug-in hybrid car produced by Audi with the help of leading-edge virtual technologies. It's an innovative way to interact with an innovative car."

Plug in to the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron

The performance and looks of an Audi. The efficiency and low emissions of electric.
The Audi A3 Sportback e-tron balances all these qualities and more within its distinctive, 5-door design. The result is a plug-in hybrid that offers exceptional economy for everyday driving, but is just as capable on the longest drives.
The A3 Sportback e-tron has also recently been awarded What Car? 'Best Electric Car' 2015, affirming its position as one of the best electric cars on the market today.
